iPhone 17 Air Leak: Ultra-Thin Design and New Camera Bar Revealed

A well-known leaker, “Majin Bu,” reportedly shared an image of a component linked to the rumored ultra-thin “iPhone 17 Air.” The blurry, low-resolution image reveals two iPhone rear shells with a pill-shaped, raised camera bar at the top. The left side of the bar has a circular cutout, likely for a single rear camera. The right side contains an LED flash and a small microphone hole. The “iPhone 17 Air” is expected to be the only iPhone 17 model with a single rear camera, suggesting the leaked shell belongs to this device.
The fourth-generation iPhone SE is also expected to feature a single rear camera, but reports do not mention an elongated camera ridge for it.
AI-generated images and counterfeit devices make it uncertain if this leaked image is real. Some leaks prove accurate, while others turn out false. It’s wise to stay skeptical.
Majin Bu previously revealed the “Desert Titanium” color for the iPhone 16 Pro models months before their release. However, some of his past claims, like an imminent iPad 11 launch in 2023, were incorrect.
Rumors suggest the elongated camera bump might extend to the iPhone 17 Pro models as well. If true, this design change could apply across the entire iPhone 17 series. Apple plans to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup, including the “iPhone 17 Air,” iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, in September.
Some Android phones, such as Google’s Pixel 9, already feature a similar camera bar design.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the “iPhone 17 Air” will measure only 5.5mm at its thinnest point, making it the slimmest iPhone to date. Apple’s official dimensions exclude the rear camera bump.
Its ultra-thin profile limits the “iPhone 17 Air” specifications. It will likely include a single rear camera, a single speaker, no global SIM card slot, and an A19 chip instead of the more powerful A19 Pro. The smaller battery will also be a trade-off for its thin design.
Rumored features include a 6.6-inch OLED display with Dynamic Island, Face ID, and 8GB of RAM to support Apple Intelligence features.
